Nakuru daring to dream after making Christie 7s semis alongside Kabras, KCB, Leos

Nakuru RFC are daring to dream in the 2023 National Sevens Circuit after making the main cup semifinals for the first time this season at the ongoing Christie 7s taking place at the RFUEA Ground in Nairobi.

The Kenny Njoroge-coached side continued with their fine run in the fourth outing of the campaign as they beat Blak Blad 7-12 in the quarterfinals to make the last four in the competition following tries from Gilbert Ochieng' and Hannington Wabwire.

"We are really happy to get to our first semis this season because Nakuru is currently a team in transition from the old boys to the new youngsters coming up," Njoroge, Nakuru head coach, said.

"As much as we have a very young squad, they have really come of age in terms of game management when we are leading or when we are down, controlling the tempo, and that is something that has worked for us, especially here.

We are excited and looking forward to even making the finals when we play KCB. If we can be as efficient as we have been since the first day, who knows what will happen?". 

In the semis, the Nakuru-based side will have to overcome a challenge from KCB, who beat Mwamba 24-5 in the last quarterfinal to set up the second semifinal clash.

The first semifinal will pit current table-toppers Kabras Sugar against Strathmore Leos.

Tries from Jone Kubu, Brian Tanga, and Lameck Ambetsa got the job done for the sugar millers, who made a fourth consecutive semifinal.

In the other match, Strathmore Leos dumped out the overall defending champions, the Oilers, following a 5-12 defeat with tries from Matoka Matoka and Elton Amalemba.
