NJIRU: Man City champions in waiting, Ole contract and Auba’s late arrival

Reading Time: 3min | Tue. 16.03.21. | 18:23

Manchester City are EPL champions in waiting, Ole does not deserve a new contract and Auba should do better.

I want to speak about three things today as far as the Premier League is concerned.

The exciting run-in for City as we enter the final 10 matches, Man United planning to hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer new contract and Arsenal captain Aubameyang at logger-heads with Mikel Arteta for the third time.

We’ve just come from matchday 28 for most teams although Man City have played 30 and others 27 like Aston Villa. Welcome to the homestretch.

Man City once again proved why they are the outright champions-elect thumping Fulham 3-0. Shout out to Pep Guardiola for managing to rotate the squad every week and still deliver more than expected. One player whose performance hasn’t been praised a lot in the last few weeks despite doing the job is Gabriel Jesus.

Jesus has netted eight times in the last 10 matches with two coming against Wolves and had an assist in the win over Everton.

Technically we should expect City to be confirmed champions in the match against Palace on May 1 or against Chelsea on May 8.

Over to the red side of Manchester, or former title contenders, I have seen reports that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in line to get a £9m-a-year contract after leading the club “back to where they owners preferred”.

Ole’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2022 but even though the Norwegian has had doubters in whether he’s the right man to lead United back to league titles and Champions league, the glazers seem to be sufficiently impressed with Solskjaer's work and ability.

If you ask me I think Ole is not qualified for this job. Despite all the spending he’s yet to win a title at Man United and has “bottled” four semifinals and dropped to the Europa League.

I am of the opinion Man United should go out there and get a “big-time” manager to make them a force to reckon once again. With Ole, they’ll be happy to finish within the top four every season; win the Manchester derby and Bruno win more player of the month awards than KDB.

Now let’s go to North London. I must commend Arsenal for getting one over neighbors Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby.

However, what caught my eye was pre and post-match shenanigans by club captain Aubameyang. Auba arrived late and left early. Last in, first out.

Can you imagine an Arsenal captain arriving late for the North London derby? Where did the standards go? Isn’t this Arsenal’s biggest game of the season?

Honestly, Aubameyang needs to change. He was originally in the starting XI for the derby but was later dropped after breaking team protocol by arriving late.

It is said he left at 6.46 pm, just 23 minutes after the win over Spurs meaning he missed warm-down for unused subs.

I remember earlier this season he had issues with Arteta after missing the COVID-19 test ahead of a Europa League game and earlier this year broke protocol by going to get a tattoo. We expect more from an Arsenal captain.
