Mulembe are currently thirteenth on the log with ten points after 11 games having won three games, drawn one, and lost six
Mike Mururi has made a return to Mulembe Unite, formerly Vihiga United, as their new head coach after he left the club in May under unclear circumstances, Mozzart Sport has established.
Muiruri takes over from his long-term football buddy Samuel Twago who left the club last week for a third stint at fourth-tier side Soy United after two years at the Vihiga-based club.
He comes in with vast experience having previously handled the now-defunct Chemilil Sugar, Sofapaka, and Karuturi Sports.
After his confirmation, he is tasked with creating a winning and positive mindset at the club to scramble for the league's top spot and challenge for promotion, as they are ten points behind the promotion bracket.
Mulembe are currently thirteenth on the log with ten points after 11 games having won three games, drawn one, and lost six.
Mulembe host the struggling Silibwet Leons on Saturday at the Mumias Complex keen to bounce back from Mombasa Stars beating over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Vihiga Bullets head coach George Owoko has expressed his desire to turn around Bullets season that got to a new low on Sunday when the former FKF Premier League side got a 3-1 drubbing at the hands of Kibera Black Stars, demoting them to 19th on the twenty-team table.
Owoko has attributed their NSL woes to a sluggish start in the second-tier league new season and despite having a new sponsor on board the team is still riddled with challenges like lack of standard training facility meaning they cannot adequately prepare for their league matches.
“We recruited the team one week into the league. Being broke leads you to a crisis where you are forced to sign rejects or upcoming players. When you sign upcoming players, you have to be patient with them and give them ample time to develop.”
“In a week, we train once because the Gikambura pitch that we are currently using floods during the rainy season, and we have to give it a whole week to dry,” said the former Bandari head coach
Despite the turmoil at the club, Owoko anticipates a tough and exciting tie when he faces his former second in command at Bandari Nassoro Mwakoba when Assad hosts Bullets on Saturday at Ukunda Showground in a match the expert is keen to collect maximum points.
“I am glad I will be meeting my assistant at Bandari and it promises to be a good clash and tough at the same time. We are going for all the three points because our main aim is to survive the chop and we are ready to do it in a fashion this week,” he concluded.
