APS Bomet head coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo has opened up on the details of a phone call from Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor before their match against AFC Leopards.

The Law Enforcers clashed with AFC Leopards in an FKF Premier League match played on Sunday, 24 May at the Kericho Green Stadium that ended 2-1 in favour of the Bomet-based side.
In effect, Leopards’ hopes of ending their 28-year wait for a league title were quashed as Gor Mahia clinched their record-extending 22nd top-flight crown.
It has now emerged that Akonnor made a phone call to Pamzo that, in the end, fueled his resolve to guide his team to upset Leopards.
“Coming into this game, I got a call from Charles Akonnor, who told me that he trusts my players and me. I assured him that we will not let him down, and indeed, we gave Gor Mahia the title,” Pamzo told Big Sports.
“Akonnor has done a good job at Gor Mahia and deserves to win the league, and I told him not to worry, we will beat AFC Leopards,” he added.
Pamzo also cheekily admitted to playing his part in Gor Mahia’s title charge as a legend of the Kenyan giants.
On the tactical front, the 2011 title-winning coach with Tusker FC disclosed the secret weapon that extended Leopards’ wait for a league title to 29 years.

“The changing moment in the match for us was the introduction of Omondi (Francis), who stabilised the game.
In the first half, we knew AFC Leopards would come at us strongly, and he is not that quick, but we would need his profile in the second half. His ability on the ball carried us through,” he added.
Additionally, the former Gor Mahia coach lauded the contributions of Phillip Wasai, whose brace in three minutes ensured APS Bomet earned Ksh1.85 million as a winning allowance, courtesy of club patron CS Kipchumba Murkomen.
“Wasai also stepped in as a captain to score two crucial goals. That is the hallmark of a big player,” he concluded.
The win catapulted APS Bomet, who had flirted with relegation for the better part of the season, to 10th on the league standings with 43 points to their name.
