After two disappointing seasons, Real Madrid have gone into overdrive, determined to return to the summit of Spanish and European football under Jose Mourinho. The plan is clear: surround Mourinho with top-class reinforcements in virtually every area of the squad and restore Madrid's dominance. But to make that happen, the club still needs more players. More elite players. True superstars. According to Marca, Enzo Fernandez has been identified as Real Madrid's primary midfield target in a deal that could cost at least 120 million euros. However, the same outlet now claims that the club's number-one objective is actually Michael Olise.

Two weeks ago, during his presidential campaign, Florentino Perez promised supporters a signing worth around 150 million, insisting that the player was neither from the Premier League nor Olise himself. Afterward, Madrid allegedly attempted to mislead rivals by showing interest in Julian Alvarez, a player also admired by FC Barcelona. The report suggests that move was little more than a smokescreen before launching a genuine pursuit of Olise. Any deal would have to wait until after the World Cup and would be far from straightforward. FC Bayern Munich have no desire to sell one of their most valuable assets.
"If Florentino Perez wants to send us an offer—which he hasn't done yet—he can save himself the trouble. We have a long-term contract with Olise, and Bayern are not a selling club" said Bayern president Herbert Hainer shortly after Perez's campaign remarks. Yet Real Madrid occupy a unique place in world football. According to Marca, they are prepared to go much further than the previously mentioned 150 million. The initial offer could reportedly reach 200 million, with Madrid willing to stretch as high as 220 million euros if necessary.
That figure would be just two million short of the world-record transfer fee paid by Paris Saint-Germain to FC Barcelona for Neymar in 2017. And if Olise himself were to push for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Bayern's resolve could be tested. Football remains a business where player preference often carries enormous weight. Another potentially influential factor is Kylian Mbappe, who has developed an excellent understanding with Olise in the French national team.
"It's incredibly easy to play with Michael because he's always looking up and sees everything. You just have to give him an option and he'll find you with the pass" Mbappe said after Olise assisted him against Senegal.
Such a partnership could provide Real Madrid with the kind of attacking chemistry they have been missing in recent seasons. Of course, even Real Madrid's resources are not unlimited. If the club truly intends to pursue both Enzo Fernandez and Michael Olise, departures may be necessary. While Mbappe, VinÃcius Junior, and Jude Bellingham are considered untouchable, one midfielder could be sacrificed. Reports suggest either Aurelien Tchouameni or Federico Valverde could leave. Following two reported altercations between Tchouameni and Enzo Fernandez in May, it is viewed as increasingly unlikely that both players would coexist in the same project, while either sale could generate substantial funds. Real Madrid's most expensive transfer window remains the June of 2019, when Eden Hazard, Luka Jović, Eder Militao, Rodrygo, and Ferland Mendy all arrived in the same transfer window, with spending exceeding 360 million euros. But if Madrid complete even part of the business currently being discussed, this transfer window could be remembered as one of the most ambitious in the club's history.
