Resilient Nyalenda United bag Div 2 title

Nyalenda United FC may have bagged the bragging rights for the FKF Div 2 2022 season but The Panthers admit it didn’t come on a silver platter. Playing two tough play-off matches against other Zonal champions Shalimar and Vegpro Football Clubs, Coach Billy Agai’s charges had to dig deep to emerge champions at the showpiece held in Egerton University.

‘’The Div 2 regular season was hard and the play-offs even harder,’’ Agai says.

‘’You can imagine playing two finals in one day. I’m proud of the display by our boys,’’ he adds of the squad that didn’t concede a single goal during the play-offs.

United had to thank Eugene Opuodho for his solitary goal against Shalimar FC in the opener, scoring at the hour mark to seal an important first win.

In the second match, knowing just another win would grant them the title, the Panthers ran riot, finding the net twice in the opening half hour through Dickson Michu and Richard Otieno.

Otieno would later find his brace in the second half, and with a clean sheet kept at the other end, ensure his side won the match 3-0.

Coach billy attributes this performance to the resilience of his side, admitting it wasn’t easy.

‘’Players need extra energy on a day like that and that’s what Nyalenda showed on the field. They had unity and teamwork, and then God led the way,’’ continues the former Western Stima midfielder.

A club nurtured in the slums of Nyalenda, The Panthers take pride in travelling all the way to Nakuru and bringing it home.

‘’Nyalenda is a home of talents and I also want to specifically thank my assistant coach Patrick Oduor for the help he accorded the team. We march into Div 1 heads high hoping God will bless us again,’’ concluded the coach.

Nyalenda United play their home games at the famed Sri Lanka grounds, a tough hunting ground for visiting teams.
