The defending champions are likely to move joint top if they win their match in hand against arch rivals AFC Leopards

Gor Biro, Yawne Yo (translating to Gor is coming, clear the way) is a song on the lips of every Gor Mahia fan after the club humbled Bandari 2-0 to move to three points within reach of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) summit.

The record league champions had been often ignored in the title talks in the current season, owing to their poor start, inconsistent performances, and change of coaches, among other factors.

However, the league giants appear to have stabilized under Croatian head coach Sinisa Mihic, as they have closed in on the duo of Kenya Police FC and 12-time champions Tusker FC.

The win over Bandari was crucial in their resolve to catch up with the two teams, given that a loss of points would have left a significant dent in their title hopes.

After the referee blasted the final whistle at Dandora Stadium, every Gor fan, even those who never believed it, had reasons to back the team in the hunt for the 22nd title.

What solidified their trust in the team is the fact that they could move to joint top with Kenya Police, if they secure all points in the match in hand against bitter rivals, AFC Leopards.

Bandari were considered an acid test for K'Ogalo going by head-to-head results of other previous and recent meetings, but the coastal side could not stop the hosts from getting the business done.

Perhaps after learning that Kenya Police had shot down Murang'a Seal in Machakos, Gor unleashed their might and would secure all three points courtesy of goals from Alpha Onyango and Chris Ochieng

The dominant performance left the Green Army convinced that it was just a matter of time before catching up with the top two clubs, and possibly beating them to the title.

Maintaining the positive run of results, witnessed in Mihic's reign will be key if Gor are to claim the third consecutive league crown and their 22nd overall.

While Gor had all reasons to smile, Bandari will be concerned with their fast-fading title hopes as the loss left them 12 points off the pace.

In fact, it will take something special for the Kennedy Odhiambo-coached side to clinch their first league title this season.

Since making controversial remarks over the quality of footballs opponents were showing up with at Mombasa, Odhiambo and Bandari are yet to win a league match.

Bandari, who have gone for four matches without a win, last won a league match on 8 February when they beat Sofapaka 1-0.
