The Gunners' star was hilariously forced to deny old rumours
Arsenal's star Bukayo Saka was hilariously forced to deny that his mum put him to bed before he made his European debut for the Gunners five years ago.
In November 2018, Saka made his European debut as a 68th-minute substitute in the Europa League clash with Ukrainian side Vorskla Poltava, a match that saw him interviewed by broadcaster Reshmin Chowdhury for BT Sport after the match.
Five years later, Saka was interviewed by Chowdhury again following their 6-0 Champions League battering of Lens, with the broadcaster reminding him of that exchange.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Chowdhury said: "Bukayo, when you did make that debut in Europe, I interviewed you after the game, you remember it, don't you? Your answer was, 'I was so excited. I found out last night, and my mum had to put me to bed. "
"I didn't say that," Saka responded. "I knew you were going to bring that up, I knew it!"
The 22-year-old winger explained what he actually wanted to say back then...
"I don't know why I even said that, if I'm being honest, because that didn't happen.
"She sort of told me to go to bed, but she didn't put me to bed. There's a difference! But it's a funny moment, to be fair."
Saka found the back of the net in the 6-0 victory over Lens to help Arsenal into the Champions League knockout stage.
