After managing Milan (twice) and Juventus (twice), it's time for Massimiliano Allegri's spell at Napoli
Napoli have turned to one of Italy's most prominent managers at the time, appointing Massimiliano Allegri as their new head coach on a contract running until June 2029.
The 58-year-old succeeds Antonio Conte, who left the club at the end of May after two seasons in charge. Conte guided Napoli to the 2024-25 Serie A title before leading them to a second-place finish last season, leaving big shoes to fill at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Allegri's appointment was delayed while he finalised the termination of his contract with AC Milan, where his second spell ended after just one season. The Rossoneri dismissed the veteran coach following a disappointing fifth-place finish that saw the club miss out on Champions League qualification, with just two wins from their final eight league matches. His departure came as part of a wider overhaul at San Siro that also saw sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and chief executive Giorgio Furlani leave the club.
He famously guided the Rossoneri to the Serie A title in 2011 before embarking on a glittering first spell at Juventus, where he won five consecutive league titles between 2015 and 2019, four straight Coppa Italia trophies and two Italian Super Cups. He also led the Bianconeri to two Champions League finals, in 2015 and 2017.
After returning to Juventus in 2021, Allegri added another Coppa Italia triumph in 2024 before taking over at Milan for the 2025-26 campaign. Now, he faces a fresh challenge in Naples, where the expectation will be nothing less than bringing the Scudetto back to southern Italy once again.
