Sigalagala coach yearning for badges after Cup lessons

After guiding Sigalagala National Polytechnic to their best ever performance in the Football Kenya Federation Cup, youthful head coach Dennis Amboso is keen to upgrade his coaching badges to match that of his role models, Robert Matano and Fred Ambani.

Amboso led the Kakamega based side to the round of sixteen where they lost 5-0 to a dominant Bandari on Sunday at the Utalii grounds. 

The 29-year old tactician in his post match reactions picked veteran Tusker boss as his favorite top flight coach while Ambani who currently serves as Wazito youth team gaffer as the best as far as grassroots coaching is concerned. 

"Locally, I look up to two coaches whom I have a close working relationship with them. Matano stands out for me in the senior league while Ambani is head and shoulders above the rest in grassroots coaching," he disclosed. 

Amboso joined the polytechnic in 2014 to pursue Diploma in Supply Chain and Management and at the same time to play football for the institution's team. 

The Mukumu Boys alumnus ditched the team the following year for the defunct National Super League side Palos FC where he plied his trade for a season before returning to Sigalagala. 

The former player at West Kenya FC says after graduating in 2018, the management requested him to help solve the quorum hitch in the technical bench only to be elevated to the rank of head coach the following year.

The former midfielder says he is keen on enriching his coaching badges in the near future and follow the footsteps of his idols who have won titles both in the top flight and the second tier. 

"I am looking forward to enrolling for the basic coaching course soon and later upgrade to the ones certified by Confederation of African Football. I picked valuable coaching lessons from the Cup matches which I believe will shape me to be a better tactician going forward, " he added
