Spurs snatch a win at Craven Cottage

Reading Time: 2min | Thu. 04.03.21. | 19:31

Dele Alli continued his mini-revival as he forced an own goal that won Tottenham three points in West London

A toothless Fulham side gave it a good go in an all-London fixture at Craven Cottage, but were undone by an unlucky own goal early on as Jose Mourinho’s side claimed the points against the relegation-threatened Cottagers.

Harry Kane had a great chance to open the scoring inside the first 20 minutes, but he headed straight at Alphonse Areola from close range, but the French goalkeeper couldn’t do much just a couple of minutes later when Dele Alli prodded home via a deflection off Tosin Adarabioyo from an inviting Son Heung-min low cross.

Spurs forward players did an excellent job in keeping the ball and thus not allowing Fulham to get a sight of their goal for long periods. The hosts did get a great chance towards the end of the first half, however, but Mario Lemina skied his shot after being teed up expertly by Josh Maja.

Fulham were the better side when the match restarted, but it was Lemina again who prevented his team from scoring. Josh Maja had found the net just after the hour mark, but the ball was previously handled by the Gabonese and VAR disallowed the goal.

A typical Jose Mourinho performance ensured the points for the visitors who had chances to hit Fulham on the counter-attack, but were ultimately happy to take the points thanks to that early goal.

The defeat leaves Fulham in the drop zone with a chance to creep up closer to 17-th placed Newcastle United missed. Scott Parker’s team seems to be improving slowly, but it might prove to be insufficient, especially against teams like Spurs.
