Stars Abroad: Action for Timbe, Abud Omar in Thailand and Greece

Kenyan international Ayub Timbe had his first taste of defeat in Thailand since his December 2021 move to Thai giants Buriram FC as they lost 1-2 to Prachuap FC.

In a match played on Sunday afternoon, the pacy Harambee Stars winger, who was named in the starting eleven, could not do anything to prevent his side from letting a one goal advantage slip through their hands as opponents Prachuap FC came from behind to steal all three points following the two late goals they scored in a space of seven minutes.

Early signs in the match had pointed to yet another routine win for the current table toppers as Pansa Hemviboon struck in the 13th minute to give Buriram the lead early on, a narrow advantage they would hold till the half time break.

Having played 64 minutes, Timbe was then withdrawn from the match and Peeradon Chamratsamee chosen in his stead. It is afterwards that the away started plotting their comeback.

On the 78th minute, they were awarded a penalty that Brazil forward Willen converted to hand Prachuap a lifeline after restoring parity. With five minutes left on the clock, Patrick Reichelt was on hand to score the second goal that proved to be the match winner handing Buriram their first defeat since November 2021.

Despite the loss, Timbe’s side still stayed at the top five points clear of second placed Bangkok United.

Abud Omar

The Harambee Stars left back featured for the full game as his AEL Larissa side recorded their ninth win of the season against AO Trikala that cemented their place in second place in the Greek second tier.

In the match played on Sunday evening, Mathias Acuna’s strike in the 76th minute is all the away side needed to get the job done.

Currently, Abud Omar’s side sit in second place on 33 points, three behind leading Veria who have played a game less.

In Tanzania, Joash was not named in the matchday squad as his Simba side condemned Mbeya Kwanza to a 1-0 defeat in the Tanzania Ligi Kuu Bara.
