Since the arrival of the Spaniard, the former Kariobangi Sharks midfielder has been deployed in a more complex role, operating as an inverted fullback, a position that demands both defensive discipline and midfield intelligence.
The 19-year-old has featured in a system where he alternates between a traditional fullback role and drifting into midfield when AIK are in possession, a tactical tweak that has been evident during preseason and the opening two matches of the campaign.
Speaking after their 2-2 draw against IF Brommapojkarna, Wilson made it clear that he is embracing the change and remains focused on contributing to the team.
“I love it, it is the game plan of the team, so it is fine with me and the club, we need to work together as a team and keep doing what we do better,” he said.
“I feel better being on the pitch.”
His performances have not gone unnoticed as commentators have repeatedly praised his composure, with some noting that he “plays like a 30 year old” despite being born in 2006.
Against Brommapojkarna, Wilson stood out for his ability to control the tempo, win duels and initiate forward passes, helping AIK maintain pressure and structure throughout the game.
Operating centrally during build up phases, he offers balance by receiving under pressure, switching play and picking out teammates between tight lines.
His physical presence, pace and comfort on the ball have allowed him to adapt seamlessly to a fluid system that shifts from a 4,4,2 defensive shape into a more progressive attacking structure.
Wilson joined AIK in August 2024 on a deal running until December 2027 after completing a move from Kariobangi Sharks.
His journey to Sweden began earlier that year when he impressed during a January trial at AIK’s Marbella training camp in Spain, catching the eye of the technical bench.
He featured in a friendly against FK TSC Bačka Topola and later scored in a 3,1 U19 friendly win over Hammarby IF at Årsta IP, a performance that strengthened the club’s interest before he briefly returned to Kenya and later sealed a permanent move.
