"We have a reputation of producing and nurturing players but not clinging to them when they find greener pastures. But we are cash strapped now and we need every coin we can get." Jobita
Struggling Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) outfit Western Stima are keenly watching developments around teenage sensation Benson Omala who is on the verge of a move to Swedish club FC Linkoping City.
Stima will demand a share of the transfer fee if Omala’s much hyped loan deal from Gor Mahia to the Swedish outfit is made permanent.
The club is languishing near relegation zone after a poor start to the season. Their struggles emanate from massive player flight after sponsors Kenya Power cut off financial taps at the end of last season.
Club chairman Laban Jobita proceeds from Omala’s sale should trickle to every club that contributed to the teenager’s football development.
“I have seen reports of his move to Europe. I will follow up keenly and should there be a sale with transfer fees involved then we will demand our share.”
“Western Stima has been producing players who make big money moves but we have not been too keen to follow up on the money but now that we do not have sponsors and we really need the money then we deserve to be given our fair share. If Omala is sold then the money should trickle down to Manyatta United from where we signed the boy,” Jobita told Mozzart Sport
Current Gor Mahia skipper Kenneth Muguna and Simba’s defensive stalwart Joash Onyango are some of the big players who have recently emerged from the Kisumu-based club.
“My players and the team currently need money. Players have bills to pay and families to take care of so we will use all means possible to rightfully get money from our former players’ moves,” he added
Stima are currently 15th on the eighteen-team log with a paltry twelve points from sixteen matches. The team has only won twice this season but Jobita is confident his players will move up the table when they start racking up victories.
“We had a slow start because of two reasons but all is sorted now and you will see a different Stima henceforth. We had too many young and inexperienced players when the season begun and they were happy to play but we realized that we would not achieve our targets. So we drafted in more experience and the change is very evident.” Jobita offered
Stima’s only victories in the league this season were registered over high flying AFC Leopards and moneybags Wazito. Jobita says the little disbursements from FKF have enabled the team honor their matches and meet other obligations thus far.
“Being a former player, I decided to be frank with my team and tell them the truth which is that we are broke. The players agreed to play, not for money, but to utilize the stage and that is how we are running. If Omala insisted on being paid before playing for Stima he would not have been seen and I’m glad my players appreciated the platform we have.” Jobita said
