Trouble in Paris - Barcola wants out, PSG demand €170 million

Bradley Barcola no longer appears to see his long-term future at Paris Saint-Germain. According to the respected French outlet L'Equipe, the France international has decided to reject the club's offer of a new contract after months of consideration, effectively ending negotiations despite PSG's highly lucrative proposal.

Barcola is currently under contract until 2028, but L'Equipe reports that PSG would only consider selling him for a fee of at least €170 million.

The report claims Barcola's decision is based primarily on sporting reasons rather than financial ones. The winger is said to be frustrated with his role as a secondary option, particularly after starting on the bench in PSG's biggest matches over the past two seasons, including the Champions League finals.

His dissatisfaction has naturally fueled speculation about a possible departure during the current transfer window.

Liverpool, Arsenal, and Bayern Munich have already expressed interest in signing the 22-year-old, while Barcola has reportedly ruled out a move to Chelsea.

His future could also depend on developments elsewhere in the European transfer market, especially the situation surrounding Yan Diomande. The RB Leipzig star is PSG's top target to strengthen the wings, but Real Madrid are also pushing to sign the Ivory Coast international, making a quick resolution unlikely. If PSG manage to receive €120 million for Barcola, they are expected to reinvest a significant portion of that fee in Diomande.

At the moment, all signs seem to point toward Anfield. Liverpool are actively searching for a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, and Barcola would likely receive the prominent role he has been craving—something he has struggled to secure in Paris. A move would also reunite him with fellow Frenchmen Jeremy Jacquet and Hugo Ekitike, which could ease his adaptation both on and off the pitch.

Barcola joined PSG from Lyon in the summer of 2023 for €45 million and has since made 152 appearances, scoring 39 goals and providing 37 assists for the French champions.

Last season, he featured in 49 matches across all competitions, but began the Champions League quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final on the bench. At the recent FIFA World Cup, however, Barcola played an important rotational role under Didier Deschamps, scoring three goals and registering one assist.

His performances on the international stage appear to have reinforced his belief that he deserves a far more significant role at club level as well.
