Taifa Stars plays Niger and Morocco later this month

Tusker FC striker Ibrahim Joshua has been called up to Tanzania's squad set to take part in this month’s set of 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches.

The 29 year old is part of the 35-man squad that was on Monday 6 November evening released by the national team head coach Adel Amrouche.

Joshua, although categorized as one of the nine midfielders selected, features as a striker for Tusker FC, and was recently involved for his club in a 1-0 win over Sofapaka on 28 October.

His only other appearance this season was a start against defending FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia.

With the latest call up, Joshua will potentially receive his fourth career cap for the national team, having only featured on three separate occasions before.

His debut for Taifa Stars was in March last year, where he came on as a second half substitute in a 3-1 friendly win over Central African Republic.

His first start was against Sudan in a friendly days later, with his last call-up and involvement as a starter coming September last year in a 2-1 friendly loss to Libya at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi.

Having missed out on the successful 2023 AFCON Qualification journey, the upcoming pair of World Cup Qualifiers will therefore provide him a first crack at a major international competition.

Tanzania, placed in Group E, first comes up against Niger on 18 November at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco, before hosting Morocco at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on 21 November.
