The tournament will be the second CECAFA event to be held in Uganda, coming after the country hosted the CECAFA Zone CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers that were won by Tanzania’s JKT Queens little less than two months ago.
“We are excited that the youngsters will have yet another platform to engage at an International level and this will help them prepare ahead of the U-17 AFCON qualifiers to be staged next year,” Gecheo told CECAFA-Online.
All Member Associations expressing the need to participate in the tournament as per the CECAFA Competitions Director Yusuf Mossi, will have to do so by 23 October 2023.
“Only players aged between 11-15 will be eligible to play in the Championship in Uganda,” he added.
The CECAFA Zone last held an U-15 Boys Championship in Asmara, Eritrea in 2019, where Uganda stopped Kenya to emerge champions.
After the U-15 CECAFA Boys Championship, focus will turn to the CECAFA U-18 Boys Championship which will be held in the Kenyan town of Kisumu from November 25th to December 9th.
