Vihiga are set to host the regional showpiece between July 17 and August 1 as they chase a ticket to the inaugural Women's CL set to be staged in November.

The Women Premier League (WPL) 2021 title might have slipped from their hands, but three-time champions Vihiga Queens have probably their biggest assignment yet when they host the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women's Champions League (CL) CECAFA regional qualifiers.

Alex Alumira’s charges had little time to ‘mourn’ the loss of the title they have held for three consecutive seasons as they hit residential camp in preparation for the showpiece.

For the CL qualifiers, eleven teams from Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Rwanda, Burundi, Zanzibar and Vihiga will fight it out for the single ticket reserved for the region in the CL.

“Our preparations are going on well and we are just tightening the loose ends that we had a problem with even before we got eliminated in the playoff. The squad is in a good place and Terry Engesha who was not at her best during the playoff is recovering well,” said Alumira adding that the draw on Wednesday will make them work from a point of knowledge in the remaining days.

Six teams will qualify via the zonal competitions, one will be the host nation and for the inaugural event, CAF decided to cede the wild card to WAFU B, as the region of the Africa Women's Cup of Nations title holders, which will see the zone parade two teams.
