Tusker FC defender Dennis Wanjala has explained why he shunned all other suitors to sign for Shabana FC.

Wanjala is among the players who parted ways with 2026 Mozzart Bet Cup champions Tusker FC during the current off-season transfer window and had been one of the most sought-after defenders on the market.

While a host of clubs, including Mara Sugar and Kakamega Homeboyz, were interested in signing him, the former Nairobi City Stars defender chose Shabana as his preferred club and signed a two-year contract with the Glamour Boys.

In an exclusive interview with Mozzart Sport after putting pen to paper, Wanjala disclosed what endeared the club to him.

“I chose Shabana because it is one of the biggest teams in the country and has a massive following, which is attractive to any footballer,” said Wanjala.

Apart from Shabana’s pedigree, their title ambitions were also a key factor in swaying Wanjala’s decision to sign for the club.

“I equally bought into the project that the club has and the ambition to win the FKF Premier League (FKFPL), which is the main target next season. While I had other offers, I believe Shabana was the best club for me at this point in my career,” he stated.

Wanjala’s signing is a massive boost to Shabana, who have been lacking a natural left-back, forcing the club to redeploy James Mazembe, who is naturally a winger, into the left side of defence.

In Wanjala, Shabana have found an experienced defender with almost a decade of top-flight experience with Nzoia United, Nairobi City Stars and, most recently, Tusker FC, where he won the 2026 Mozzart Bet Cup.

The marauding full-back is solid defensively and equally effective going forward, especially from corners and free kicks, where he can either score or provide an assist.

In the 2025/26 season, Shabana finished fifth in the FKFPL table with 52 points, a whopping 17 points behind Gor Mahia, whom they will be seeking to dislodge.
