By selling Declan Rice, the Hammers financed pretty much their entire transfer window
West Ham have turned the football market upside down this summer. They sold Declan Rice for over €120,000,000 and massively raised the price of defensive midfielders across England. According to that model, Chelsea had to set aside monetary compensations for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. But that detail is less important at the moment - what is important is that West Ham almost financed the entire transfer window by selling Rice to Arsenal.
After Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Konstantinos Mavropanos, the Ghanaian speedster Mohamed Kudus arrived in East London for 41,500,000 euros fixed and a potential 3,000,000 as a bonus (Ajax retained the right to 10 percent of the money from the next sale). The total expenditure of the Hammers for the mentioned four footballers this summer increased from 92,800,000 euros to 134,300,000 euros. Somewhere in the northern part of the city, Declan Rice is probably sitting and thinking - 'God, what have I made possible for the town rivals?'
Ward-Prowse has already started to pay off for the London team, Mavropanos is waiting for his debut and Alvarez if he continues where he left off at Ajax will also be a worthwhile purchase. With his talent and energy, Kudus certainly has a serious predisposition to succeed in the Premier League, which was destined for him this summer. The African was sporadically courted by Manchester United, Brighton's offer was accepted by Ajax, but Kudus didn't want to go south with Roberto De Zerbi and a few weeks later gave the nod to West Ham. And it paid off more for Ajax that Kudus did not want to go to Brighton, since that transfer was agreed for 40,000,000 euros. This way the Dutch giants will be able to earn 4,500,000 more, as the deal with the Hammers included percentages in the whole deal.
"When I was a kid, I dreamed of being in this kind of league one day. But I don't want to stop now that I'm here, I want to go forward," said Kudus, who will be wearing the number 10 shirt after signing a five-year contract with the option of extending cooperation for more 12 months.
Injuries to the meniscus, ankle and one broken rib affected Kudus to not show real continuity of games in Amsterdam, although the previous season was quite productive with 17 goals and seven assists in all competitions. He played 87 matches for the Amsterdaamers with 27 goals and 12 assists, and missed as many as 56 matches due to injuries. If he stays healthy, he could show the English elite that he is ready for great deeds.
