Six FKF PL matches were played on Sunday with all eyes on the Tusker vs Gor Mahia match
Red-hot Gor Mahia forward Benson Omala scored the sole goal as Gor Mahia edged Tusker 1-0 at the Kasarani Stadium on Sunday, putting coach Robert Matano on the firing line if the threats issued by club chairman Charles Gacheru are anything to go by.
Gacheru, in an interview with the Daily Nation, unreservedly revealed that Matano had to beat Gor so as to secure his job after struggling with consistency in the past six rounds of the season.
The fiery Matano also hit back at his boss, daring to sack him in the event that Tusker would bow to the record champions.
The unwarranted spat between the two generated debates in football circles and on social media days leading up to the game, with the biggest question being, will Tusker bosses make good on their threat?
Omala found the back of the net, heading a low cross from Patrick Sibomana to settle the contest.
The result means that the brewers have won two of the opening seven rounds, placing them in the bottom half of the log with eight points.
On the other hand, it places Gor a point behind log leader Posta Rangers who lost 3-1 to FC Talanta on Saturday.
When will AFC Leopards win a league game? This must be the question lingering in the minds of the Ingwe faithful after the team failed to arrest their winless start following the 1-0 defeat to Bandari at the Mbaraki Grounds.
Following the result, Leopards, who brought in the Czech Republic’s Tomas Trucha in a bid to steady the ship, have gone seven matches without a win.
Bandari won maximum points courtesy of Derrick Nsibambi’s second-half strike.
In other matches played on Sunday, Kakamega Homeboyz returned to winning ways after edging Nzoia Sugar 1-0 at the Sudi Stadium.
Moses Shumah scored the all-important goal for Homeboyz to see the club bag its third win of the season.
Debutant Murang’a Seal held Bidco United to a barren draw at the Kasarani Annex.
Meanwhile, Shabana conceded yet again in the closing stages of the game to extend their win-less run at home after playing Nairobi City Stars to a 2-2 draw at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay.
Shabana were enjoying a 2-1 lead, but City Stars found the back of the net in the 85th minute through Vincent Owino to deny the league returnees what would have been their first home win.
City Stars had broken the deadlock in the sixth minute through Samuel Kapen, but Eugene Mukangula restored parity for Shabana in the 17th minute.
Vincent Nyabuto got the second for the Glamour Boys, but Owino struck from the spot to force a share of the points.
