The reports claim that the 54-year-old has been sacked following a 5-1 disaster against Sweden

Tunisia's World Cup campaign has descended into chaos after reports emerged that head coach Sabri Lamouchi has been sacked just one game into the tournament.

The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) is said to have parted ways with the 54-year-old following the Eagles of Carthage's humiliating 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening Group F match, a result that left supporters stunned and raised fresh questions about the team's direction.

According to multiple reports, including information from journalist Romain Molina, the FTF convened an emergency meeting shortly after the final whistle in Monterrey before deciding to dismiss Lamouchi. If confirmed, the decision would bring an abrupt end to a tenure that lasted only five matches.

The heavy defeat to Sweden was not an isolated setback but the latest chapter in a worrying run of results. Tunisia arrived at the World Cup on the back of a crushing 5-0 loss to Belgium in their final warm-up match and have struggled badly for goals in recent months.

Lamouchi, who took over following Sami Trabelsi's departure after Tunisia's Africa Cup of Nations campaign, began his reign with a promising 1-0 victory over Haiti. However, that proved to be the only bright spot of his brief spell in charge.

A goalless draw against Canada was followed by defeats to Austria, Belgium and Sweden, with Tunisia managing just one goal across those four matches while conceding 11. The alarming decline ultimately convinced federation officials that a change could no longer wait.

The World Cup opener against Sweden quickly spiralled out of control. The Scandinavians seized the initiative early and never looked back, handing Tunisia one of the heaviest defeats in the nation's World Cup history and leaving their hopes of reaching the knockout stages hanging by a thread.

Reports in Tunisia suggest the federation has already begun considering potential replacements. Former national-team captain Wahbi Khazri has been mentioned as a surprise candidate, while Mondher Kebaier, who guided Tunisia at the 2022 World Cup, is also believed to be under consideration.

The timing of the decision has sparked debate among supporters. While many were angered by the team's performances, others questioned whether changing coaches in the middle of the World Cup can realistically solve Tunisia's deeper issues.

Whoever takes over will have little time to make an impact. Tunisia's next Group F fixture comes against Japan on June 21, with the Eagles of Carthage already facing a must-win situation if they are to keep their World Cup dream alive.
