
Handball: Close calls as Sharks, Buccaneers win

Ulinzi Sharks atoned for their last weekend's sins where they lost to rivals Nairobi Water with victory over National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) women on Saturday 17 September.
The military side started the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league match on a high, giving the millers a three-goal difference that prevailed at the end of the first half with a 16-13 scoreline.

Euphrasia Mukasia was unstoppable, contributing ten goals followed by Sarah Wasike who added six to the tally as they went on to win 29-25. Joan Akinyi scored nine for NCPB.
In other women's matches Nairobi County Council (NCC) picked a rare win, defeating debutants New Hope 32-14 as Winnie Cherop emerged to scorer with 14 goals. Florence Sangisa emerged the top scorer for New Hope.
An elated NCC coach Winfred Madara hailed his charges for winning their first match of the season after seven loses.
"Everybody is excited with this win. We played really well to post our first win. We will now strive to win our remaining matches," said Madara.
Additionally, Kenyatta University (K.U) Vampires who opened their league last weekend made it back-to-back victories, withstanding Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology's (JKUAT) onslaught from a slim 24-23 victory.
The match was tied at 11 goals at half time and was anyone's game until the very end. Catherine Ketapo emerged the matches top scorer with eight goals but it was not enough to hand her side victory.
Vivian Owano, Claire Wanyonyi and Celyne Wabuke all scored six to propel Vampires to the win.
Meanwhile, the men's league saw Buccaneers pick a 34-32 win over K.U as Randy Ochieng scored 11 in the victory.
Strathmore, who have not been in action since the general election-occasioned break got back to winning ways, having lost their last match to Inspired Boys, beating University of Eldoret Pippers 35-14.
Nehemiah Kiplesegei and Edwin Limo scored seven goals a piece for the Eldoret students.
Dessert Scorpions, the newest kid in the league, lost their second match of the season 47-18 to former champions Black Mamba.
