Kenya’s top men’s volleyball clubs are staring at a demanding test at the 47th African Men’s Volleyball Club Championship in Kigali, Rwanda, after being drawn into challenging pools against some of the continent’s heavyweights.

Equity Bank Volleyball Club headline Kenya’s charge in Pool B, where they will come up against formidable opposition from Cameroon, Egypt, Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire and hosts Rwanda.
It is a group that offers little margin for error, especially with North and West African sides traditionally dominant at this level.
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), making their sixth appearance at the continental showpiece, have been placed in Pool C.
They will face teams from Morocco, Ethiopia, Ghana, Rwanda and Tanzania in what shapes up as a balanced but equally competitive group.
KPA will be banking on their experience to navigate the early stages and push for a place in the knockout rounds.
General Service Unit (GSU), Kenya’s most decorated side in the competition, find themselves in Pool D alongside clubs from Burundi, Cape Verde, Ghana, Rwanda and Cameroon.
The paramilitary side carries the country’s biggest expectations, having last lifted the title in 2018, and will be keen to stamp their authority early.
Kenyan clubs have consistently held their own on the continental stage, often finishing between the top 10 and 15 despite the long-standing dominance of North African giants such as Al Ahly and Espérance de Tunis.
Kigali is hosting this year’s expanded edition of the tournament, organised by the Confederation Africaine de Volleyball, with between 24 and 26 clubs from across the continent battling for supremacy.
The teams are split into groups before advancing to knockout rounds that will ultimately determine the African champion.

Defending champions Asswehly SC of Libya are also back to defend their crown, adding another layer of competition in a tournament that runs from April 20 to May 3.
The action officially gets underway on Wednesday, with hosts APR Army taking on Black Rhinos at 8.00 pm Kenyan time, setting the tone for what promises to be a high-intensity battle for continental supremacy.
