This will be the second derby for Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor and his backroom staff, which includes Kobi-Mensah, having suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg on Sunday, 7 December 2025.

“It (Mashemeji Derby) is a very big and difficult game. We have not been able to win our last three matches, nor have we scored a goal, and that is a very big worry for us. We are focusing on improving many areas like that,” Kobi-Mensah told Azam TV.
The 42-year-old also reflected on one weakness in the team that contributed to their loss in the last Mashemeji Derby.
“It is one game where we really need a stable temperament and to be tactically ready. In our last derby, we had some bad moments, more so in the first 10 minutes, where the players looked not to be ready mentally to start the match,” he added.
Nonetheless, the former Karela United tactician expressed confidence that the team will be well prepared for Kenya's biggest club football match.
“We have watched AFC Leopards and know their strengths and weaknesses, and we now just need to work and be ready for the match,” he stated.
Ahead of the Mashemeji Derby, Gor Mahia are at the summit of the league table with 58 points, three more than second-placed AFC Leopards, with the match expected to play a significant role in the FKF Premier League title race.
