In a brief but upbeat statement shared on their official social media platforms, the team confirmed the upward movement, signalling renewed optimism within the squad.

“Up we go! We move up to 128th in the FIFA World Rankings. The journey continues,” read the statement.

The latest rise follows an encouraging showing during the recently concluded Women's FIFA Series held at Nyayo National Stadium.

The mini-tournament provided a competitive platform for the Starlets to test themselves against higher-ranked opposition while building cohesion within the squad.

In the four-nation tournament, Kenya finished as runners-up, demonstrating resilience and growth despite facing formidable opponents.

Starlets recorded an impressive 2-0 victory over India women's national football team, who are placed 69th in the world. In the tournament's final, they fell 2-0 to the highly-rated Australia women's national football team, ranked 15th globally in the finals.

The upward surge reflects Kenya’s consistent development, as they move up from their December 2025 ranking, which followed their qualification for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), ending a nine-year wait.

On the continental stage, Kenya is currently ranked 28th in Africa, with the record 11-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions, Nigeria women's national football team, Super Falcons, maintaining their position at the summit (36th in the world).

Regionally, within the CECAFA zone, the Starlets, under the guidance of head coach Beldine Odemba, are ranked second behind Tanzania's Twiga Stars, who sit 121st globally.

Ethiopia occupies third place at 138th, while the Crested Cranes of Uganda are fourth, ranked 146th worldwide.

Kenya will next turn their focus to the upcoming 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations scheduled from July 26 to August 16, where strong performances could further boost their global standing.
