The project is aimed at empowering young learners through technology and digital education, with the ICT lab constructed and equipped by the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation in partnership with the Standard Chattered Foundation.
Pupils from the school will have access to the internet. as the two foundations seek to bridge the digital gap among learners in rural areas.
Chebulbul Primary School, located just about 100m from the Global Sports training camp where Kipchoge and other Kenyan stars, including multiple World Record holder Faith Kipyegon trains.
The schools holds a special place in the marathon legend’s heart, as it serves children from the community where he trains, and has spent the last 24 years.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Kipchoge said his vision is to see children from humble backgrounds access opportunities through technology and education.
“I am very happy that the school has allowed my foundation to chip in, and team up with the Standard chattered Foundation. I built the classrooms and they equipped them, this is the next generation that we are shaping and I believe the law of nature requires us to contribute and touch a human being in whichever way possible," Kipchoge said while also revealing plans to construct libraries in all the counties.
"The ICT Lab will go a long way in helping the learners especially because the Competency Based Curriculum is largely digital. Most lessons require a teacher and pupil to use a digital device, this is a real win for the learner," Real Biwot, a former head teacher at the school offered.
Standard Chartered's head of community impact and engagement Regina Mukiri says the dream between the two foundations began in 2024,, and is part of the impact projects from funds raised by the Standard Chattered Nairobi Marathon.
"The project looks at empowering young people. Digital skills is our priority because the World is increasingly becoming Tec savvy. Therefore, access to technology is a tool of empowerment that connects young people to the World," she offered.
