The new identity set to be unveiled on 1 August 2023 is meant to symbolize inclusivity for all aquatic disciplines

The Kenya Swimming Federation (KSF) Kiambu County will now be referred to as Kiambu County Aquatics Association, Dr. Douglas Okatso, a swimming stakeholder in the county, confirmed on Thursday.

The move comes after the Kiambu County Swimming Governing body stakeholders held a vote for a rebrand - one meant to symbolize inclusivity for all aquatic disciplines, not just swimming.

The major announcement was just part of the resolutions met in a bid to reflect the county’s expansion of the aquatics profession beyond competition and swimming but rather also as a life skill, to include sustainability, environmental advocacy, leisure, tourism and wellbeing.

Alongside the new association identity set to be rolled out in the next swimming season scheduled to start on 1 August 2023, the stakeholders also voted to amend its constitution in line with Kenya Aquatics, Africa Aquatics and World Aquatics.

“Our new brand and visual identity will also enable us to connect with new audiences and encourage new generations of athletes across various aquatics disciplines to be united by water, safely, fairly and sustainably,” Okatso reiterated.

Also agreed, was the paving way of public schools representation in the board of Executive Committee, a move that meant the subsequent incorporation of public schools in management of the sport.

“Swimming was becoming an exclusive sport of the rich and was at the verge of completely secluding underprivileged kids in the community,” Condor Swim Club coach Joseph Ndungu said, commending the great forward step in the county.

Ndung’u is also among the board members of vulnerable public schools within Kiandutu slums, Thika.

The development comes soon after students from Mugumuoni Primary School in the aforementioned slum, became the first beneficiaries of a program that saw them actively participate in the second edition of Kenya Swimming Federation - Kiambu County Minnows Swimming Championships that took place last month at the Crawford International School in Nairobi.

The last resolution in the meeting was unanimous, as the stakeholders endorsed Gloria Muthoni, an advocate specializing in sports law, to be the returning officer during elections of officials at an Annual General Meeting slated for next month.
