The annual tournament, organised by the Kenya Rugby Union, continues to serve as a vital platform for nurturing grassroots talent, drawing over 20 boys’ teams and 15 girls’ teams this year.

The teams have been regionally grouped into five pools per category, setting the stage for intense preliminary action.

Girls’ pools breakdown

In the Nairobi pool, defending champions Kinale Girls headline a competitive group that also features Rift Valley Academy, Karen C Girls, St. Teresa’s Girls, Jamhuri Secondary School (Thika), and Mbagathi Girls.

The Marsabit pool includes ACK St. Peter’s, Dakabarichia High School, Gadamojii High School, and Moi Girls Marsabit.

From the Nyanza/Western region, Nyabisase Girls, Nyagichenje Girls, and Chilani High School will battle for supremacy.

The Coast pool features MSC Academy, Paul Harris, and Canona Kituri, while the Rift Valley pool is made up of St. Joseph’s Girls and Itigo Girls.

Boys’ pools breakdown

In the boys’ Nairobi pool, Rift Valley Academy will face off with Upperhill High School, Lenana School, Jamhuri High School, and Mang’u High School.

The Rift Valley pool promises fireworks, with reigning champions Kisii School drawn alongside St. Patrick’s Iten, Kabianga High School, Tarasa High School, and Chilani High School.

Nyanza/Western will see Butula Boys, St. Mary’s School Yala, Otieno Oyoo High School, and Kakamega High School go head-to-head.

In Marsabit, Dakabarichia High School, Badasa High School, ACK St. Peter’s, and Marsabit Mixed make up the pool, while the Coast region features MSC Academy, Kwale High School, and Waa Boys High School.

Last year’s edition saw Kisii School make history by clinching their maiden Prescott Cup title after a 17-5 victory over St. Patrick’s Iten in a fiercely contested final.

Kisii’s tries came through flanker Prosper Buyanzi, eighth man Beijil Ochieng, and fullback Keystone Onduku, who also slotted in a conversion.

Despite struggling with handling errors, recording nine in the match, they compensated with disciplined set-pieces and controlled aggression, conceding fewer penalties than their opponents.

St. Patrick’s Iten managed a late consolation try but were unable to convert their chances, despite committing only three handling errors, a contrast that ultimately defined the outcome.

Kisii had earlier edged out Rift Valley Academy 15-3 in the semi-finals, while Iten booked their spot with a 23-3 win over Waa Boys.

In the third-place playoff, Butula Boys thrashed Lenana School 49-0.

Meanwhile, in the girls’ category, Kinale Girls delivered one of the most dominant performances in recent history, crushing St. Teresa Girls 93-0 in the final.
