Mozzart Sport brings you a full list of the coaches who will be on the touchline as the league commences

The 2025/26 Kenya Cup season commences on Saturday, 22 November, at various venues across the country, with Mozzart Sport bringing you a full list of the coaches who will be on the touchline as the league commences.

Kabras RFC – Carlos Katywa

The four-peat Kenya Cup champions will be aiming for a historic fifth title as the new season kicks off. The Sugarmen clinched their fourth crown on Saturday, 12 April at the Kakamega Showground after narrowly defeating Menengai Oilers 27–26 in the final.

They reached the final without tasting defeat in the league, and under the watchful eye of South African gaffer Carlos Katywa, they will be out to make more history.

Kabras open their campaign against MMUST Rugby at the Kakamega Showground.

Nakuru RFC – Oscar Ouma

Former Kenya 7s ace Oscar Ouma will continue leading Nakuru RFC as they seek to reclaim their place among Kenya’s top rugby sides. Wanyore survived relegation by a whisker last season but mounted a strong late charge, winning four consecutive matches to finish seventh with 18 points.

This season, they will be keen to remain competitive and trouble their opponents. They begin their campaign against Kenya Harlequin at the RFUEA Grounds.

Menengai Oilers – Gibson Weru

Another former Kenya Sevens ace has undoubtedly earned his reputation as a master tactician.

Despite their young history, the Oilers have reached two Kenya Cup finals and won back-to-back Impala Floodlit titles under his leadership. A notable highlight of his tenure has been consistently outperforming rivals KCB Rugby.

Last season, they came painfully close to dethroning Kabras but fell 27–26 in the final. They had started that campaign on a high by winning the Floodies, and have already defended their Floodies title this year.

Whether this is finally the year they clinch the elusive Kenya Cup remains a wait-and-see moment.

Strathmore Leos – Willis Ojal

Strathmore have grown into one of the most formidable sides in the country. They are fresh from a second-place finish in the National Sevens Circuit under Willis “Foxxy” Ojal. Their Floodies campaign ended in sixth place after losing to KCB in the fifth-place playoff.

This season, they are bolstered by players such as Gabriel Ayimba and Victor Mola, both with national team experience. They kick off their season against KU Blak Blad at the Blad Bin.

KCB Rugby – Andrew Amonde

Former Kenya Sevens captain Andrew Amonde has been tasked with restoring the Bankers’ lost glory in the longer version of the game. KCB last lifted the Kenya Cup in 2021 and failed to reach the final last season.

Their struggles have spilt across 15s competitions, exiting the Floodies in the quarterfinals after losses to Blak Blad and Oilers, while the Enterprise Cup title has also remained out of reach. They open their season against Impala RFC at the Ruaraka Grounds.

Impala RFC – Malik Ndemi

Malik Ndemi steps in to fill the big shoes left by Louis Kisia, whose contract expired in September and was not renewed.

Kisia, who joined ahead of the 2024/25 season before moving to the Gazelles setup, oversaw steady progress at Impala, guiding them to the semifinals of the 2024 Floodlit, where they finished runners-up after a 41–7 loss to Menengai Oilers.

That momentum carried into the Kenya Cup campaign, where Impala narrowly avoided relegation and finished 10th.

Their survival went down to the wire on 8 March, with key wins, among them a decisive victory over Kisumu RFC, keeping them in the top flight.

Ironically, the same head-to-head rule that relegated them three seasons ago ensured their safety this time as Mwamba RFC and South Coast Pirates dropped.

Nondies RFC – Moses Wanyaga

The reserved, unassuming tactician Moses Wanyaga will guide Nondies again this season. If their Floodies performance is any indicator, the Red Shirts are on the right trajectory.

They have reached the playoffs for the past two seasons and will be keen to finally break the jinx.

Kisumu RFC – Howard Okwemba

Okwemba returns to Kisumu RFC, having last coached them in 2018 when he led them to promotion after winning the KRU Championship at the Kakamega Showground. His most recent stint was with South Coast Pirates in the 2019/20 Championship season.

Since his departure, Kisumu have had several coaching changes, including former Uganda 15s coach Brian Makalama and Menengai Oilers forwards coach Lawrence Buyachi, who guided the team back to the Kenya Cup.

Buyachi stepped down before the start of this season, while Oscar Okaron led the team through the 7s Circuit before exiting at the end of the campaign.

Kenya Harlequin – Patrice Agunda

Former Kenya international and long-serving Quins stalwart Patrice Agunda took over after Paul Murunga’s contract expired.

Agunda’s rise follows years of service on the technical bench, including roles as skills coach, 7s coach, and assistant coach.

He enjoyed an illustrious 15s playing career at Quins, winning three Kenya Cups, three Rugby Super Series titles, the Enterprise Cup, and the National 7s Circuit. He was inducted into the club’s Roll of Honour in 2014.

Internationally, he represented Kenya in both 15s and 7s, appearing at the 2013 Sevens World Cup, the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and captaining the Elgon Warriors in 2021.

Daystar Falcons – Caleb Bosire

Bosire leads the Falcons as they make their maiden Kenya Cup appearance. The students were promoted at the end of the 2024/25 season and will be out to prove their promotion was no fluke. They face a tough opening match against Menengai Oilers at the Nakuru Athletic Club.

KU Blak Blad – Benard Rotich

Blak Blad enter the season buoyed by a strong Floodies campaign, where they finished third after edging Impala 21–19 in a tightly contested match.

They aim to build on last season’s sixth-place finish, where they narrowly missed the playoffs. Coach Benard Rotich once again leads the charge as they look to punch above their weight.

MMUST Rugby – John Asila

MMUST earned promotion at the end of the 2024/25 season and will be eager to prove their mettle in the top tier. They face a difficult opener away to Kabras RFC.
