The clash was originally scheduled for Saturday, 6 December 2025, but was postponed after both institutions held graduation ceremonies within the matchday window.
MMUST held its graduation on Friday, 5 December, making it logistically impossible to stage the fixture, while Daystar University was also preparing for its own academic event. The two clubs mutually agreed to reschedule the encounter.
When the teams eventually met, the Falcons arrived with history against them. They had lost their previous two visits to the venue in the KRU Championship, though they had beaten MMUST 29–10 in the Championship final staged at Kakamega Showground. This time, however, they dramatically broke the hoodoo.
The contest began cautiously, with both sides trading early penalties that were missed by Daystar’s Eddy Wambugu and MMUST’s Flavian Otiyo.
Daystar eventually struck first when swift handling from a scrum cut through the hosts’ defence, sending Augustine Owino over unmarked in the corner.
MMUST responded through Otiyo, who made amends with two long-range penalties to give the home side a slender 6–5 advantage.
Daystar hit back through forward dominance, opting for a rolling maul from a lineout that saw hooker Ezekiel Omeno ground the ball.
Wambugu missed the conversion, and moments later the Falcons added another try when Chris Obuya dived over in the corner, though the extras again went begging.
The hosts reduced the deficit with a try of their own before halftime, leaving Daystar with a narrow lead heading into the break despite sustained late pressure.
The momentum swung early in the second half when Daystar were reduced to 14 players after Wambugu was shown a yellow card. MMUST capitalised immediately, with Otiyo slotting a penalty to edge his side ahead 15–14.
Daystar responded with resilience, regaining control through forward strength once more as Nathan Tsindoli finished off another powerful maul to restore the visitors’ lead at 20–14.
MMUST continued to press in search of a comeback, but Otiyo saw a crucial penalty attempt bounce off the posts. The hosts mounted a dramatic late surge, maintaining possession for more than five minutes before Musa Mugandi crossed the whitewash to bring them within a single point.
With the final act of the match, Otiyo had the opportunity to snatch victory from the tee, but his conversion drifted wide, sealing a famous and hard-fought triumph for Daystar Falcons; their first-ever win at the MMUST Grounds.
