Four teams are tied on position one with Kabras leading the way
Kakamega based side Kabras Sugar shot straight to the top of the Kenya Cup table after their 49-3 mauling of varsity side Blak Blad in their opening match of the new 2021/2022 local rugby season.
Reeling from the pain of losing the Kenya Cup title against KCB especially after topping the table for the whole of last season, the Jerome Muller coached side left nothing to chance as they started the season in a way they would love to maintain as they swept aside their opponents at the ASK Kakamega Grounds. The domineering win earned Kabras an extra point as they scored an excess of four tries in the match.

Reigning champions KCB were made to work hard for their 18-10 win in their first game of the season against Homeboyz at the KCB Sports Club. This was Homeboyz’s first game since February 2020 as they missed out on the whole of last season citing Covid-19 challenges. KCB find themselves already one point behind as they missed out on the extra bonus point.

Kenya Harlequins claimed the bragging rights in the Ngong’ Road derby as they condemned Impala Saracens to a 29-20 loss at RFUEA Grounds. Both sides were under new management with Senegalese Amady Diallo leading Quins while former Kenya 7s international Oscar Osir started his tenure at Impala. Quins also earned a bonus point in their win.
Last season’s bronze place finishers Strathmore Leos got the better of Top Fry Nakuru as they won the match 30-11 to commence their ambitious target of fighting for the Kenya Cup title this season and claiming a bonus point in the process as well.
Menengai Oilers also got off to the perfect start as they picked a 25-19 win over Mwamba.
The biggest upset of the opening round came in Kakamega as Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology defeated record Kenya Cup champions Nondescripts 24-15.
