The Ksh3.5 million will be distributed among the playoff teams as prize money while also providing financial support to host clubs to facilitate event organization

The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has confirmed that teams participating in the Kenya Cup playoffs will receive prize money at the end of the season courtesy of a sponsorship deal from Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) through its flagship brand, Tusker.

On Wednesday, 27 March, Tusker announced a Ksh10 million sponsorship, with Ksh3.5 million allocated as cash support to the union and Ksh6.5 million dedicated to enhancing the fan experience, vendor support, and build-up activities for the Kenya Cup semi-finals in Kakamega and Nairobi, as well as the grand final.

The Ksh3.5 million will be distributed among the playoff teams as prize money while also providing financial support to host clubs to facilitate event organization.

As part of the sponsorship, Tusker will amplify the playoffs through various media platforms, provide high-quality match and administrative officials, and ensure live streaming of the matches online, with potential terrestrial broadcast coverage.

KBL has also committed to enhancing the match-day experience for fans through on-ground activations and immersive engagements.

Speaking during the launch, KRU CEO Thomas Odundo expressed gratitude to KBL and Tusker for their continued support, highlighting Kenya Cup as the backbone of domestic rugby and emphasizing how the sponsorship will help deliver a well-organized and competitive season finale.

Tusker’s Marketing Manager, Christine Kariuki, echoed this sentiment, affirming the brand’s commitment to rugby and its role in ensuring a thrilling conclusion to the season.

The prize money distribution will see the Kenya Cup winner receive Ksh300,000, the runner-up Ksh200,000, and the second runner-up Ksh100,000. Positions four, five, and six will also be rewarded with Ksh75,000, Ksh50,000, and Ksh50,000, respectively.

The Kenya Cup semi-finals will take place in Kakamega and Nairobi, with Kabras Sugar RFC facing Nondescript RFC at 1:00 pm in Kakamega, while KCB RC will take on Menengai Oilers at 4:00 pm at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka.

Both matches will be broadcast live on the Kenya Rugby Union YouTube Channel.
