
Prinsloo 7s: Quins stun KCB to finish top of Pool C

The result sets up KCB against a tough Strathmore Leos in the main cup quarters.
Paul Murunga's Kenya Harlequin delivered one of the biggest upsets on the opening day of the 2023 Prinsloo 7s as they stunned giants KCB 24-5 to clinch top spot in Pool C as the Bankers were left to settle for second place heading into the main cup quarter finals set for Sunday.
Quins scored three tries through Paul Mutsami, John Kibii and Cornelius Mokoro and were also awarded a penalty try as Edmund Anya scored KCB’s consolation in the match deciding who would finish in top spot in Pool C.
The result marked KCB's first loss in the group after picking wins over Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and Blak Blad, setting them up against a tough main cup quarter final encounter against Strathmore Leos.
Elsewhere, current table toppers Kabras Sugar avoided any upsets as they made sure of pole position in Pool A with a 24-12 victory over Kisumu that maintained their 100% start in the tournament as they seek to make the main cup final three times consecutively.
Griffin Chao landed two tries with Jone Kubu and Lameck Ambesta adding one each with Eric Cantona while Caxton Aresi and Walter Ambe touched down for Kisumu with John Ochar kicking over the conversion.
In the other Pool A encounter, Homeboyz finally picked up a win, defeating Western Bulls 28-12 in their final Pool A fixture following their opening two defeats.
Ramadhan Masete scored a brace for the deejays with Brayan Juma and Emmanuel Mbaka adding a try apiece. Juma added three conversions with Mbaka drilling home a conversion while Nickson Manduku and Anthony Odwuor scored a try apiece for Bulls with Evans Shikoli managing a conversion.

Hosts Nakuru finally gave their home fans some reason to cheer as they were 26-5 winners over Catholic Monks in Pool B.
Isaac Kubasu scored the sole try for Monks before Nakuru scored four tries through Chrisant Ojwang who landed a hat trick and Glibert Ochieng with James Macharia drilling home two conversions as Paul Lusesi added a solitary conversion.
Menengai Oilers also kept their unblemished recird intact as they thrashed Nondies 24-0 to confirm victories in all their three matches as they sealed top spot in Pool B.

Masinde Muliro made sure of a win in Pool C after seeing off Blak Blad 12-5. They scored their tries through Joseph Omulefu and Veron Kaburu with Byron Ogada adding a conversion as Otieno Oyoo scored the lone try for Blad.
Daystar Falcons finished third in Pool D with a 19-12 result over Zetech Oaks.
The Falcons scored their tries through Patrick Odongo, Duncan Olile and Augustine Owino with Clinton Kioko and Meshack Andale each kicking over a conversion. Zetech landed tries through Byron Otieno and Brayan Ondego who also added a conversion.
The top spot in the Pool D however went to Strathmore Leos who beat Mwamba 19-12 in another pool decider as Kulabu finished in second place.
