Match Report
The match did not start smoothly for Kenya, who squandered an early opportunity when Denis Abukuse knocked on while attempting to ground the ball after a promising run.
The United States capitalized on that let-off, striking first through Ben Broselle, who brushed past Floyd Wabwire to score. The conversion was missed, but the Americans soon doubled their advantage when Lucas Lacamp collected an offload and sprinted clear for another unconverted try, stretching the lead to 10-0.
Shujaa regrouped and responded through John Okoth, who finished off a well-crafted move initiated by Kevin Okoth.
The successful conversion brought Kenya back within three points at 10-7 heading into the break.
In the second half, Abukuse made amends for his earlier error, powering over the line to give Kenya a 12-10 lead, although the conversion attempt was unsuccessful.
Kenya then found another gear, with Samuel Asati linking up well with Nygel Amaitsa, who showed great pace to race to the corner and score. The try extended Shujaa’s lead to 17-10.
With momentum now on their side, Kenya held firm in the closing stages, displaying resilience in defense to fend off the Americans and seal a crucial victory.
The result sends Shujaa into the quarter-finals, reviving their campaign and keeping their ambitions alive in one of the most prestigious tournaments on the sevens circuit.
