The athlete adds to the list of 20 Kenyan athletes, who have now been sanctioned by AIU this year alone.
Barely a day after the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) banned Kenyan marathoner, Philemon Kacheran Lokedi for three years, the unit has provisionally suspended mountain runner Mark Kangogo for doping.
According to AIU, the presence or use of prohibited substances (Norandrosterone & Triamcinolone acetonide) were allegedly found in Kangogo’s system.
A Provisional Suspension is when an Athlete or other Person is suspended temporarily from participating in any competition or activity in Athletics prior to a final decision at a hearing conducted under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules or the Integrity Code of Conduct.
Back in August 2022, Kangogo emerged victorious in the Race of the Five 4000s in Sierre-Zinal, the sixth Gold Label race of the Valsir Mountain Running World Cup.
The 33-year-old was making his debut in the race and upset the card after beating the pre-race favourites Maude Mathys and Kilian Jornet.
Kangongo holds the Luxembourg Marathon course record set in 2018 and added to the list of 20 Kenyan athletes, who have now been sanctioned by AIU this year alone.
The athlete is a cross-country and trail running specialist and has a marathon personal best of 2:14:08 set in Frankfurt back in 2018.
