Trials for the Africa Senior Athletics Championships, set for Tuesday 12 to Sunday, 17 May in Accra, had earlier been scheduled for Thursday, 26 to Saturday, 28 March, while the trials for the World Athletics Relays, scheduled for Saturday, 2 and Sunday, 3 May, were initially planned for Saturday, 4 April.

However, in Kenya's efforts to assemble strong and competitive teams for both championships, AK is now set to conduct combined national trials from Thursday, 9 to Saturday, 11 April at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

The event will serve as the trials for both the Africa Senior Athletics Championships and the World Athletics Relays, with participation in the trials will be strictly by invitation.

"Further details regarding the list of invited athletes, invitation and selection criteria, and the order of events for the trials will be communicated in due course. We encourage athletes to continue with their preparations in readiness for the upcoming trials," the statement confirms.

Kenya will be looking to assemble a squad that can challenge for the overall African title, having finished second with 19 medals in Douala, Cameroon in 2024. The country finished behind South Africa who bagged nine gold, four more than Kenya, who added seven silver and as many bronze.
