The duo concluded the season with Diamond League trophies as Kenyans bagged six medals in the final leg of the series
Double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet and Games bronze medalist Mary Moraa were on Tuesday 17 September hosted by acting Inspector General (IG) Gilbert Masengeli.
The brief ceremony was held at the Police Pavilion in South C, to celebrate the achievements of the National Police Service (NPS) athletes during the recently concluded Paris Olympics and Diamond League, according to the Service.
Both Moraa and Chebet bagged medals at both events, clinching the Diamond League titles in their respective distances.
Moraa ran a season-best of 1:56:56 at the Brussels Diamond League final, the victory marking her fourth of the season and handing her a third trophy in the series.
The reigning world champion had won bronze at the Summer Games.
Chebet, on her part, has been unstoppable this season. The two-time World Athletics Cross Country champion made history as the first Kenyan woman to win two gold medals in a single Olympic Games on her debut.
She won the 10,000m race in 30:43.25 at the Stade de France, four days after bagging the 5,000m gold. In the 5,000m final, she became the second woman in Kenyan history to win the event after Vivian Cheruiyot’s victory in the Rio 2016 Games.
Chebet took the 5,000m top honors in 14:28.56, during a dramatic race that saw three-time 1,500m Olympics champion, Faith Kipyegon, disqualified and later reinstated to bag the silver in her season best 14:29.60.
"The NPS remains committed to fostering excellence in sports, and achieving the highest standards of performance for all our athletes," a statement from the Service on social media reads in part.
