She became the first Kenyan to qualify to represent the country in long jumper at the Under-20 level when she made the team for Cali, Colombia.

Kenya's duo of Winny Chepngetich and Elikanah Kiprotich who have been in training at the Miramas Athletics Club in France jet back in the country on Friday after successfully completing their month-long training.

As the two return to their respective training camps in the country, Chepngetich says she is ready to take on the challenge of competing in the senior level as she will not be legible to compete in the next age group world competition.

The Kericho-born Chepngetich broke Kenya's duck in the junior categories, becoming the first Kenyan to qualify to represent Kenya in long jumper at the Under-20 level when she made the team for Cali, Colombia.

After an initial stint at Miramas with a much bigger group in April 2022, Chepngetich managed a 6.20m jump at the national trials to get a direct ticket to Cali. That performance also gained her a second chance to Miramas alongside the 400m sprinter, Kiprotich.

"Our second training in Miramas has been good. I am happy for the opportunity to get further training here and as I head back home, I feel more equipped to make my switch to the senior level," Chepngetich told Mozzart Sport in a interview before leaving France on Thursday 3 November.

The 19-year-old admits that competing in the senior category will be no walk in the park as she will be up against more experienced athletes both locally and internationally but has vowed to give her all in the jumps to bring glory to the country.

"The competition will definitely be tougher but I feel that the journey I have been on was preparing for that. I will be looking forward to the next competition where I hope to improve my personal best of 6.30m to 6.50, which will be a good start for the senior level challenge," she added.

Athletics Kenya's track and field meetings begin in February 2023 and the youngster says she will be ready for the challenge then.
