Kamworor heads back to the British capital carrying memories of the 2023 edition, where he produced a career-best run of 2:04:23 over the 42km distance.

That race was dominated by the late world record holder Kelvin Kiptum, who stormed to victory in 2:01:25, while Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola completed the podium places.

Now 33, Kamworor returns with renewed hunger and quiet confidence, fully aware of the challenge awaiting him in what is expected to be another high-tempo contest.

“I know very well I am going to face steep competition because of the strong field, but I am well prepared, and I will run well,” Kamworor said.

This year’s race adds another layer of intrigue, with Kamworor set to line up alongside his close friend and training partner Joshua Cheptegei, one of Uganda’s most decorated distance runners.

He will also face defending champion Sebastian Sawe and 2022 winner Amos Kipruto, which shows the depth of an elite field packed with proven winners.

Kamworor believes his preparation has placed him in the right frame of mind, drawing motivation from training alongside some of the world’s finest, including marathon great Eliud Kipchoge and middle-distance queen Faith Kipyegon.

Motivation is top-notch, having trained with Eliud Kipchoge, Faith Kipyegon, and many athletes who have won the Olympics and world titles. The atmosphere was great and made me feel I was in the right place. So for sure we know we will achieve something and we are heading to greatness because of their guidance and encouragement and leading the way,” he said.

The Kenyan heads into London on the back of a strong run of form. His 2025 season saw him finish second at the Barcelona Half Marathon before claiming victory at the Rotterdam Marathon in 2:04:33.

He also triumphed at the Antrim Coast Half Marathon and bounced back from a seventh-place finish at the Chicago Marathon by winning the Madrid 10km.
