Kenya is poised to assemble a formidable squad with the aim of recapturing its premier status in athletics, a distinction narrowly missed in the 2019 Games. During the last edition, Kenya clinched the second position, trailing behind Nigeria by a margin of just three bronze medals, despite securing an impressive tally of 20 medals. Both contingents boasted an equal share of 10 gold and 7 silver medals each.
Kenya eyes retention of several coveted titles, including Elijah Manangoi's triumph in the men's 1500m event during the previous iteration of the games. Additionally, the nation aims to defend Robert Kiprop's 5000m crown, Benjamin Kigen's gold in the 3000m steeplechase, Samuel Gathimba's victory in the 20km walk, Julius Yego's dominance in the javelin throw, and Titus Ekiru's triumph in the half marathon.
The women's team is equally determined to uphold Kenya's athletic prowess, with past champions like Qualyne Kiprop in the 1500m event, Lilian Kasait in the 5000m, Vanice Nyagisera in the 400m hurdles, and Emily Ngii in the 20km walk having already set the mark.
In the global cross-country championship in Serbia, Kenya will aims to maintain its reign after clinching the overall title in Bathurst in 2023, alongside two individual gold medals.
Kenya will be eager to dethrone Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo in the senior men's category and challenging Ethiopia's hold on the U20 women's title, secured by Senayet Getachew in the preceding year.
