Kenyan double as Obiri, Kibet rule RAK half marathon

It was a Kenyan podium sweep in the men's race.
Two-time world 5000m champion Hellen Obiri, who has since switched to long-distance racing, dominated this year's Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) half marathon women's race to defend her title.
Last year, Girmawit Gebrzihair won the title in a 64:22, a course record, ahead of Obiri.
The Kenyan he held on in the 2023 race held on Saturday 18 February to win in 65:05, defeating Ethiopia's Gotytom Gebreslase who clocked 65:51 for silver.
Ftaw Zeray was third in the race, coming home in 66:04. World marathon record holder, Brigid Kosgei was fourth, finishing in 66:34 while Evaline Chirchir completed the top five places in 67: 15.

Meanwhile, Bernard Kibet clocked 58:45 to win the men's race and lead Kenya to a podium sweep as Daniel Mateiko (58:49) and Richard Yator (59:37) bagged silver and bronze respectively.
It was a personal best finish for the bronze medalist who denied Ethiopia’s Hicham Amghar a podium place.
