2019 African Games 5,000m champion Robert Kiprop is gearing up for a busy 2024 season after amazing exploits this year.

Kiprop would sum up his year with a fourth-place finish at the Inaugural Great Chepsaita Cross Country Championship but the BingwaFest offer was too enticing to let go.

He won the BingwaFest 10,000m race to walk home Ksh200,000 richer. The trailblazing long-distance runner has now taken a break for the festive season, noting he anticipates to come back stronger next year.

“2024 will be a very busy and crucial year for any athlete,” Kiprop offered.

For instance, from May 10-15, more than a century of countries will compete in the 2024 International School Sport Federation (ISF) World School Cross Country Championships that will take place at the Ngong Race Course in Nairobi.

Kenya received a nod to host the international championships after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ISF.The country will also host the Kipkeino Classic and the Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Tour, events that call for more talents to claim medals.

Athletes are also sharpening claws in readiness for the 2024 World Athletics Under 20 championships in Lima, Peru.

Kiprop will kickstart his season with the National Police Service Cross Country Championships slated for Nairobi 19 at the Ngong Racecourse.

He will be using the NPS Cross Country Championships to hunt for tickets for the upcoming national championships which will also be used as trials for the World Cross Country Championships on March 30.

"I need to prepare well for the event,” Kiprop said.

Following that, he will compete at the Sirikwa World Cross Country Championships slated for Eldoret in February. He will be looking to better his ninth-place finish in the 2023 edition.

"I want to improve on that by hitting the podium. But that needs proper preparations; through training,” he offered.

Kiprop is itching to be part of the team that will represent Kenya in the World Cross Country Championships slated for Belgrade, Serbia.

I would want to be in the Team Kenya to Belgrade but I know it will not be easy at the national championships. I have done this many times so it will not be a new frontier,” he said.

He will then head on to Accra Ghana from Friday, 8 March 2024 to Saturday, 23 March 2024 for the African Games where he will be keen to defend his title.

Above all, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officer will be looking to be part of the team that represents Kenya in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.
