The 2022 New York City Marathon champion Sharon Lokedi will surely hope the 'gods' of Tamirat Tola are with her when she lines up for the Paris Olympics marathon
The search for more gold medals in the Paris Olympic Games continues this morning, with the women’s marathon being the highlight of Sunday action as the global showpiece ends following 15 days of thrilling races and fights in various events.
All Kenyans will be broadcast live on the country's state broadcaster KBC, and Supersport.
Defending champion Peres Jepchirchir will be seeking to retain her crown, while New York City marathon winner Sharon Lokedi will seek to strike gold with her first attempt at the Olympics.
Two-time Olympic 5000m silver medalist Hellen Obiri, who triumphed in the 2023 Boston Marathon, will be hoping to bag a maiden gold medal when she debuts in the long-distance run at the Summer Games.
Ethiopian-born Dutch middle and long-distance runner Sifan Hassan and other Ethiopians are some of the big names that will look to spoil the party for the Kenyan women.
Kenya has accumulated three golds so far courtesy of Beatrice Chebet’s double in the 10000m and 5000m races and Faith Kipyegon's 1500m Olympic record run on Saturday night.
The marathon kicks off at 9 am Kenyan time.
