The May 27 to 29 invite-only event doubles as a qualifier to the postponed Africa Senior Athletics Championship.

National 200m champion Mike Mokamba is set to miss the upcoming Olympics pre-trial set for Nyayo National Stadium as he is out nursing an injury sustained during the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) annual meet last week.

Mokamba won the 100m race at the military event despite appearing to be in pain at the last 10 metres of the race, walking off the track with a limp.

"I suffered a pulled hamstring during the 100m final and unfortunately I cannot sprint. My medical team has advised that I take ten days off sprinting so I am just doing light jogging now. After about two weeks then I will get back to training with the Olympics trials in mind," Mokamba revealed.

Mokamba, who was part of the Kenyan 4x200m team to the World Relays in Silesia, is hoping to build on his 20.54 ran at the global event as Kenya finished second.

"My season best, in a individual race, is 20.6 achieved at an Athletics Kenya meet earlier in the year. I believe the time I'll have left when I am fully back in training will be enough to work on achieving the Olympics qualifying time of 20.24,"

"I had not competed in 100m since 2015 and last week's race was part of my speed training in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics trials in June," the athlete who is chasing a third appearance to the Summer Games said.
