She opted to skip Florence and Paris where she was scheduled to compete in 400m and 800m respectively

Fresh from clocking 1:59.85 to clinch the national title this past weekend, Commonwealth Games 800m champion Mary Moraa will line up against a star-studded field in Friday's Lausanne Diamond League leg.

Moraa is preparing for the World Championships set for Budapest in August and she is set to line up against a majority of the women expected to make it to the final in Budapest.

The Diamond League reigning champion goes up against Olympics and World silver medalist Keely Hodgkinson in their first meeting, outdoors, this season.

Moraa has gone under two minutes twice in the distance this season, clocking 1:58.83 to win this year's Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi and 1:58.72 to win in Rabat leg of the Diamond League series.

She meets a Hodgkinson who broke her own British 800m record in her first race of the outdoor season in Paris earlier this month, timing 1:55.77 and has since improved her 400m best to 52.24 to win the England U23 title.

In their previous meetings indoors this season, Hodgkinson got the better of the Kenyan.

Moraa beat Hodgkinson and Laura Muir in the Commonwealth 800m final, going from first to last and back to first and later won the Diamond League final in Zurich.

While all the attention is likely to be on the duo, there are other accomplished runners in the distance led by 2018 African Championships bronze medalist Habitam Alemu who holds a personal best time of 1:56.71 from back in 2018.

Also on the field is 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist and 2022 4x400m silver medalist, Jamaica's Natoya Goule who was also raced again Moraa and Hodgkinson in Birmingham last year.

Others in the field that has only two athletes who are yet to dip under two minutes this season, are Catriona Bisset, Noelie Yarigo and Jemma Reekie among others.
