A visibly excited Mutinda says he had been working for this moment for a year now but there is more to be done.
"This is exciting and a reward for hard work. I focused on my endurance in the last year and it has paid off beautifully. However, now is not the time to slow down. The achievement has given me confidence to go for quicker times as the National Trials near," he told the media at the finishing line.
The Police sprinter believes he is capable of producing even better results in subsequent races if he works on his take off.
Meanwhile, Tinega, said the race is one he will savour for many years, telling Athletics Kenya (AK) that this was one of the toughest races he had ever run in a while. He had managed 44.99 on Thursday in the heats, a time that build his confidence in going for the Tokyo qualification mark for the individual race.
Tinega had already booked his place on the plane to Tokyo via the World Relays in Guangzhou, China. He was part of Team Kenya’s mixed 4x400m relay team that bagged bronze at the global competition in May this year, as well as the men’s 4x400m relay team, qualifying for the Tokyo games on both occasions.
Elsewhere, Kipkorir who said he is going to intensify his training ahead of the national trials for the global championship, was also part of the Relay success.
