World cross-country bronze medalist Agnes Jebet Ng'etich was in a class of her own when she crossed the finish line in the Athletics Kenya (AK) national cross-country championships held at the Kenya Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru on Saturday.
Chebet who made history on the 14th of January 2024 on the streets of Valencia after becoming the first woman ever to run a 10km in under 29 minutes was out to extend her winning streak.
She finished the course at 31:50:9 ahead of her former classmate and close competitor Emmaculate Anyango who came in second at 31:53:1.
Anyango was coming from claiming first position in the Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Championship Tour where she outclassed a strong contingent to emerge victorious in 32:55.
Lilian Kasait completed the podium in 31:56:3.
In the senior men's category, 2022 national cross-country champion Sebastian Kimaru Sawe outclassed a strong contingent to emerge victorious in 28:38:3, less than a second ahead of Samuel Chembolei who finished in 28:38:9.
Gideon Ronoh completed the best three in 28:41:9.
The junior men's category was even more competitive, with Japan-based Samuel Kibathi Wanjiru emerging as the winner in 22:37.
It took Kibathi only one month to improve on his Sirikwa Classic performance where he completed the course in 23:37 to clinch second place.
He was closely followed by Charles Rotich who came in second in 22:38, an improvement from his Sirikwa Classic performance where he completed the podium in 23:40.
