Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has revealed that plans to build the Kamariny Stadium have now been officially halted
The Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ministry of Youth Affairs, The Arts and Sports Mr Ababu Namwamba has revealed that the construction of Kamariny Stadium in Elgeyo Marakwet will not proceed as the Government of Kenya now plans to convert it to an ultra-modern elite training centre.
Speaking during the homecoming of new World Marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum in Nairobi, the CS says the decision was arrived at after proper research.
“We have assessed the location of Kamariny and have arrived at the conclusion that there’s no need to build an international stadium in the area due to the high altitude. No international competitions can be held there but it is a perfect area for training and therefore, we are going to build a high-altitude elite training center at the same location,” Ababu said,

“This will indeed open up the entire Elgeyo Marakwet as the heartbeat of elite athletics training in Kenya and increase sports tourism in the region.” He added.
