Thompson will continue his hunt for a first ever Wanda Diamond League (DL) victory as the favourite after clocking a 9.75 seconds world lead and personal best (PB) to win the Jamaican men's 100m title and become the sixth fastest man in history on Friday, 27 June, during the national trials.
He goes up against 2022 Wanda Diamond League champion Bromell and Paris 2024 bronze medalist Hughes in a world-class battle at Hayward Field.
Thompson, who missed out on Olympic gold by a fraction of a second in Paris last year, burst onto the international stage with a second-place finish at Xiamen Diamond League in 2023.
He has since made four more appearances in athletics’ premier one-day series, but is still yet to claim his first victory.
In April, he came second to Akani Simbine in a thrilling photo finish in Keqiao, a result which puts him within touching distance of a place in the DL Final.
Meanwhile, Bromell is an experienced DL campaigner, with six individual wins and one series title to his name. After battling numerious injuries over the years, Bromell has made a fierce return in 2025. He has raced the 100m twice this season, opening with a 9.91 and then dropping to an impressive 9.84 at the Rome DL earlier this month.
On his part, Hughes, the fastest British sprinter in history with a PB of 9.83, won bronze behind Thompson in the 100m Olympic final in Paris last year.
He has been regular fixture in the DL since 2015, notching up five victories. He has competed twice this season, running 9.87 in Miami and 10.05 in Philadelphia, both at Grand Slam Track slams.
